The Wolverine

 Just back from seeing it.
And as of now, it is my favorite movie of the summer.

Now, I'll get into spoilers (quick ones) and history here, because I got to explain why I think this.

It's starts off with the bombing of Japan in WWII, where Logan saves the life of a man who tried to save others (awesome scene).  Years later...  Logan is in the mountains in repentance for killing Jean (from the 3rd movie) with the BIGGEST GOD DAMNED BEAR you have ever seen in your life.  After an incident with some hunters (which I was agreeing with Logan), he gets stopped by a ninja girl named Yukio, who convinces him to go to Tokyo to give his last regards to the dying soldier who he saved so long ago.

My first note will be here-
I'm not an avid comic reader.  My information from comic books comes from the TV cartoons I watched as a kid (and now) and video games.  The problem with comics is that they take too long to find all the parts, the writing keeps changing drastically from chapter to chapter (later on, after finding out how comics are made, I realized it was because the writers would seriously change that quickly), and I have no patience for it (I now wait for them to come out in books anyway).
But even without reading the comics, I know about Wolverine going to Japan.  It's even talked about in the old X-Men cartoon.  And even in the most recent ones...
...But I have never heard of this girl being a mutant.
.......BUT... I like it.
Having the ability to see the death of people is a heavy burden and an understandable reason to turn into a warrior because of it.  You also have to live with the dread of seeing your own death one day...
It is useless as a power, but powerfully for a ninja.
It also lets her connect with Logan as well, so for story, it's really good.
She also looking like a modern punk girl looks good on her too.  Cleans up well.

In Tokyo, Logan meets Yashida's family and after a hilarious bathing scene, we see the old man in probably one of the coolest medical beds I have ever seen.  Logan, considering his immortality a curse, gets offered by Yashida to transplant Logan's powers into his own body, saving Yashida's life and granting Logan mortality. Logan refuses and prepares to leave the following day. That night, a woman (named Viper as we find out later) and poisons... or something into Logan's body, but Logan dismisses it as a dream.
The next morning, Logan is informed that Yashida has died, and attends the funeral.

My second note is this- I never heard about Viper before, but she is also something that I like.  Good villain material.  I also kept seeing references to the Silver Samurai (which is one I DO KNOW! From the Marvel VS Capcom 2 video game!) but not seeing who it is.  So now it was a guessing game... where is he and who is it to be revealed?

Yakuza gangsters attempt to kidnap Mariko, but Logan and Mariko escape together into the urban sprawl of Tokyo. And it is here we see that he is no longer healing from his injuries, and is therefore vulnerable to the attacks of his pursuers.
Instant... interest.  You now make someone who is invincible and make him vulnerable.  We can now connect with Logan (which we already did) and now we worry about his safety.  Good plot!
After fighting off more assassins on a bullet train, Logan and Mariko hide in a local love hotel. While Mariko sleeps, Logan stands guard outside and experiences another hallucination of Jean before passing out from his injuries.

And then it hits me... it's a Samuri movie!
It's a movie where a man has lost his honor and is trying to find a path to either reclaim it or to accept a new path.

After Logan is healed by a vet (ha!), he and Mariko go to Yashida's house in Nagasaki. As they slowly fall for each other, Logan starts revealing his past to Mariko (who in return tells the legends that her grandfather told her, which were about Wolverine). Meanwhile, Yukio has a vision of Logan dying (uh oh...), and goes to warn him... Just when Mariko is captured and Logan is revived enough (but still hurting and vulnerable) to go on the hunt for her.

And then it gets really good...
So I'll stop there.

The reveal of the main villain was really good in my opinion.  They sort of did a mix of what they did to Deadpool in the Origins movie and Iron Man... which by themselves is a bad idea*, but combined works well in this.  I felt an "Oh shit" moment and was hoping something was going to happen... but no spoilers for that part.

* (I still haven't forgiven them for what they did to the Mandarin, and I understand what they were trying for Deadpool, but they went to far and messed up by adding too much by adding Cyclops powers and the blades.  They could still make it work cause if you saw the original ending for that the mouth was ripped open and Deadpool was still alive, but I heard it is going through development hell).

I'm also going to say that both Mariko and Yukio are both strong female characters and I really like them both.  Even the villain Viper is fucking intimidating.

Overall~
An excellent piece.  A must own for me.
I recommend all to see it.
I didn't see it in 3D but I also won't recommend to go see it that way.  There wasn't much I could think need to be 3D, but maybe there are some scenes that would have looked good.

...Like the ninja fight scene...  And the Atomic Explosion... And the arrows... hmm...

Go Wolverines!!!

Old Boy ~ Why this could be good or bad?

Saw this trailer tonight -

AW YEAH!!! Oldboy!

...Oh, fuck.  Oldboy...

I'm kinda split here.
I have read the entire manga series of Oldboy, the original -

And I find the premise amazing!  The idea of someone being imprisoned alone for years without knowing why and then released to find out why.  That alone is interesting enough to read, and for the first few books it was...
Until the ending.
My review of this series long ago was this (1-10 with 10 being the highest recommendation)
Oldboy - 7, a strong beginning, but a pointless ending.
The ending was underwhelming.  It was one of the worst endings I have ever read (not the absolute worst, but still bad).  There was no way for them to make that ending worst.
Until they made a live action movie-

And it was great UNTIL THE ENDING!  Where they basically just went completely nuts and fucked everything up.  I both love and hate that movie.
And now, I am wondering what they will do to this new one.  I heard it's more acurate to the manga then the original movie is, but it also looks like parts of it are from the movie.

I am both worried and excited.
I also realise that they keep adding on to the years.  First it was 10, then 15, and now 20?
Keep adding the insanity.

P.S.  DON'T WATCH THE FIRST OLDBOY!  FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND CLEAN, I ORDER YOU - DO NOT WATCH!!!!

UNLESS YOU WANT THERAPY!!!

I warned you~

Shades of Fear ~ 2 - Disbelief

Captain made it pass the quiet Coliseum, being too early for any Warriors fighting.  Captain had been in there a couple of times, never betted on anyone, but had seen some of the fights, finding many good soldiers for his troop there.  He walked near the corner and passed more alleys to an empty corner, near Pride Castle.
It seemed empty, just a corner of city with a stage that most people had forgotten.  Captain waited a bit and …
     “Hello Captain.  You’re early.”
Even though he was expecting it, Captain had to force himself not to react.  Salric has that effect.  In one second, some cloaked figure wrapped in black bandages appeared right in front of him, silently and without much movement.  There was a slight unease to that.
It also didn’t help that he was a Walker.  Or at least, part of one.
     Captain asked, “Report.”
“Nothing, sir.  Been quiet as a mouse for the last…” he pulled out a watch that was heavily dinged up, “six hours.”
Captain raised an eyebrow.  “Six hours?  I’m two hours early then?”
Salric shook his watch.  “Give or take.  Besides me, you’re the first one to be here.”
Captain looked around again, still empty and quiet.  “Hmm… and no sign of our supposed employer?”
     “No movement, no sign.”
So no way for a trap, thought Captain.  “Then I’ll be back.  Going to get something to eat and check up on some stuff before the meeting.  Stay hidden till the rest of the group gets here.”
“Understood.”  He didn’t really disappear, but he suddenly couldn’t be focused on.  And then… nothing.
Captain looked around and then headed towards the other side of the ruined castle.

Fat John and Thin Luke were renown as the best cooks in Silver City once, during the years when the Shadow King was still around.  Fat John, called for him being a pretty hefty guy, could cut a slice of meat and cook it to perfection.  Thin Luke made spices, drinks, and combinations with Fat Johns meals that made them the most wanted cooks in the land.
But after the Burning Man, they changed.  Their mouths became cursed and he could no longer eat or taste the same way.  Fat John, which was the only name he responded to after he lost his shadow, was driven almost mad.  He took this as a time to learn and repent, sewing his mouth shut in an act of penitence.  Fat John took this in acceptance, but Thin Luke did not.  He fell into the madness, grieving insanity to the point of becoming monstrous.
It also didn’t help their sanity or reputation when the public found out that their meat came from a Holy Cow.  After that...
Captain knocked on Fat John’s door, and waited till it was opened by a thin almost skeleton man with a stitched up mouth.
“Hey Fat John, got anything you can cook up for me?”
Fat John looked at Captain, who produced a shiny red apple from his pocket, and welcomed him in with a silent gesture.
Inside Fat John’s house was a diner table with stools facing a large grill that was designed for a large group.  It was kind of sad to see it empty.  Captain choose a seat and faced the grill as Fat John quietly walked behind it and put on a apron.  The grill didn't seem hot, nor did it feel like it in the room, but after Fat John grab a handful of grounded meat (which looked almost too fresh) and placed it on the grill, the meat started to hiss and burn.
With a spoon and a spatula, he moved the meat around into a simple patty.  And with an almost graceful gesture, grabbed a bread bun and cut it in two with a blade that the Captain really couldn't see.  Without much of a reaction, he quickly flipped the patty into the bun and placed it on a plate in front of Captain.
Captain looked at it, and it was the perfect piece of meat.  But... "No sides?  Is Luke awake?"
Fat John gave him a silent look.
"Yeah, alright, probably better this way."  Captain went to grab it, but Fat John grabbed it before he could, and in no time at all, placed a fried egg on top of it.  Captain smiled.  "Aw, you spoil me Fat John.  It didn't come from a Holy Chicken though, right?"
Fat John gave another silent look.
"Just kidding.  I really appreciate this."  Captain grabbed the burger and was about to take a bite, before Fat John tapped the plate and pointed to the corner.
Captain turned and stared right into the Holy Cow.
Now, there is nothing wrong about the Holy Cow.  It's just a regular looking brown spotted cow sticking his head out of a room of hay and with blood leaking on the floor.  But it's what happens to him that get people unnerved.  Captain knows when Fat John doesn't have anymore meet to cook, he walks to the butchers area behind the house and takes off the limbs and organs out of that Cow.  However, it doesn't die, nor does it  feel any pain.  It barely reacts to any sort of damage that is inflicted upon it, and heals so fast that it seems in a few seconds that nothing happened.
Fat John can cook and endless supply of meat... but the down side is that he still has to take care of the cow.  It moos, pees, shits, and constantly wants food.  Fat John likes the cow and treats it right, but Thin Luke hates it, trying multiple ways to kill it.  But nothing works.
Most people, after finding out about the Holy Cow, have stopped going to there place for the inconvenience and guilt of eating a piece of a creature that was staring back at you.
Captain, however, did not.  He knew the right way of dealing with it.  He took his burger, turned to the cow, handed it the apple that he showed to Fat John before, bowed in respect as it ate the apple without any emotion, and then a bite from his burger without any regret.
Fat John, with his thin sewed lips, smiled in a way of the payment that gave Captain a more satisfied feeling than that delicious burger could ever do.

After finishing the meal, and giving respects to Fat John for it, Captain started his way to Gun Metal Heavy Shop, a blacksmith shop run by a man by the name of Horace.  As Captain got closer, he noticed the shop and a bright light shining behind a large figure of a man with black leather chaps.
Like Captain, the owner Horace just a regular person.  But unlike Captain, he didn’t enjoy being normal.  He was a heavy set man, with long wild hair and heavily pierced almost everywhere.  Metal pieces stuck out of him and gave him a menacing look, but Captain knew him to be like a nice guy.
“Hey, Horace,” Yelled the Captain over the loud noises of the welding.
Horace finished his part on the metal sheet and turned around.
And the image of his welding mask would forever haunt the Captain.
The hood started from a simple black squared masked.  But then it had a pair of horns, real horns from what looked like a goat, coming from the top forehead area.  Those weren’t so bad, but it was the design on the mask that unsettled Captain.  They were teeth.  Very sharp looking teeth that went across the mask like a smile from nightmare.
      A grin in the darkness.
Horace lifted up the hood to reveal his heavily pierced, sweaty face.  “Yo, Captain!  You’re here early.”
“That’s some mask you got, where did you find that thing?”
"Oh this?  I traded some guy at the pawn shop for it.  He said he got it from some strange person from an unknown land and that he was told it had mystical powers..."
Captain gave him a strange look.  "Really?"
"Nah, just pulling your leg.  I made it from parts around the shop.  I put the teeth on it to give it a sort of Cheshire Cat look to it."
      "The Cheshire Cat?"  Captain asked.
"You know, from Wonderland?  Like the book?"  Horace looked at Captain, who had the look of someone confused, and then changed subject.  "Nevermind.  So you ready to see it?"
      "That's why I'm here."
Horace got up, placed the welding mask on the table, and went into the corner, as Captain couldn't help but stare at the mask.

"Here you go sir, good and new"  Horace placed a silver gun in front of Captain, which caused him to stop looking at the mask and take a look at his gun.

Which was nothing like the gun that Captain owned.
"What the hell is that?  What happened to my Magnum?"  Captain asked, being both confused and irked.
"I upgraded it."  Horace said with a smile.  "Made it cool."
"Upgraded?  I didn't ask for a upgrade, I asked for a tune up."
"Same thing.  I made it a DW PPC.  "Protective Power Controller."  It still uses the .357 Magnum bullets that you are used to and I even lessened the recoil for you.  Should even be easier for you to aim.  Give it a try.  I'd even made your holder able to hold it."
Captain looked doubtful, but he grabbed it and found it surprisingly lighter than he thought.  It was still heavier than he was used to though...  but it did have that intimidating look to it.
"And how much more are you wanting for it?"
"No charge, no charge.  I'll even add some bullets to the order.  All I want is a favor in return."
     Captain hesitated instantly.  "What favor?"

Captain walked down the road, gun now in toll, and looked around towards the area of the Lusted.  The Lusted always lived near the hot volcano river that went through the south-east part of town.  It does get a little too hot for some people there, but they couldn't tell you if it was the lava or the Lusted.
He made it to an alley, before he heard crying from a girl.
Captain put his hand to his new gun and stopped near the edge of the alley, before peaking out and seeing a little girl being pinned up to the wall by a very dirty man with an crazy look in his eye.
"Yes, scream if you want, it won't change anything."  The man said in a way that upset Captain even more.  As silently as he could, he walked out of the man's sight and pulled the gun towards his head.
"Yeah, it would.  It would make me pulling this trigger so much easier."  Captain said in a cold voice.
The man turned suddenly in disbelief, then screamed out obscenities to the large gun in front of his face, and after being pistol whipped, ran off without much dignity left.
Captain replaced his pistol, happy with the reaction he got with it without needing to fire, and turned to the little girl.  "You alright?"  He asked as he started to look at her in the eyes.
And then he remembered.  There were no children here in the Silver City.
     "Oh, hi Evita." Captain said.
In an instant, the little girl turned into an regular sized woman, beautiful to behold.  The rags that she once wore, barely covered her gorgeous pale skin.  She quickly took a strand of cloth that was as dark as her hair and pulled it across her eyes to blind herself to Captain, but it didn't stop her from getting really close to him.
"Captain!"  she said, sounding happy.  "Pleased to see you again.  Wished we could have met during better times though."
"What was that about?" Captain asked.
"Part of the job.  Some customers have just the "meanest fantasies" sometimes."  She said 'meanest fantasies' in a kiddish voice that made Captain shiver.  "I would have been mad if it wasn't you.  What are you doing here?  To visit me?"  She asked while using one finger to feel around Captain's chest.
"Actually, I did.  I need a message for Sally."
The finger stopped moving and started to feel sharp. "Oh?  Why's that?"
Captain didn't react.  "Horace wants her to visit him soon.  He's feeling kinda lonely lately."
The finger became soft again.  "Oh, ok.  I can do that.  Is that all?"
Captain had to smile a little at this.  "Well, maybe I could also ask for a visit later today?"
The finger started to move lower and she smiled even though she couldn't see.  "I was hoping you would ask."

Captain, now alone, headed back to the corner of the Pride Castle that he had just visited a few moments ago to now see that it was now crowded with all sorts of people.  Most of them looked like mercenaries, but Captain could only recognize a few of them.
"Welcome back, Captain."  Salric said as he appeared behind him.  "The rest of the team is over here."  He pointed towards the front, where Captain could see some familiar faces and headed towards them with Salric close by.
"Anything new?"  Captain asked, as he saw that the stage was still empty.
"Nothing except the crowd.  Looks like we weren't the only invited ones here."
"I noticed."  Captain said as he made his way to the front.
The group greeted him, but they were cut short as in an instant a cloaked armored man appeared suddenly on stage in front of them.

      And a female voice spoke.
      "Welcome, gentleman."

End of Part 2~
A lot of small characters inspired by a certain event.  And even more introductions to the city life.  Sorry it took so long, but just been so busy and wanted to write more and more... May also be drunk while writing this.
Also, you don't know it yet... but some reveals about a certain character just happened.  And you don't know because I haven't revealed it yet... in the future!
Yeah, I'm definately drunk.
Also definitely need to edit.   Anyway, that's part 2.  Till next time

Hunter- part 2

So, last time I was talking about the Hunter in Venture Bros.
In fact, I even like the other scenes with him-

But I guess I also have to talk about the guy he was based on,
HUNTER S. Thompson

File:Hunter S. Thompson, 1988 crop.jpg

Thompson (you can see more of his life here) was a famous American journalist and author who was known for his "unique" style of writing.  He put himself in his writings and his point of view was definitely memorable.
If anything, his writing were incredible.  Both the perfect combination of poetry and story-

But probably his most well know view of his life (and story) is from Hollywood.
And Johnny Depp -

Of course another well known actor had played him... Bill Murray-

And just like Colonel Hunter Gathers, there have been other character based on him.
Did you ever see King of the Hill?

Well, there is more, but I'll just let that set in.
I mean, it's not like he had a huge impact in my...
(actual photo of me as I write this)
"If you're going to be crazy, you have to get paid for it or else you're going to be locked up."

Ah... crap.
Going to hell in a handbag will seem like a vacation compared to this suitcase to madness.

"Art is never a reason to rush." - A rant by me

SO I have to start with why I wanted to write this out really quick this night.
I was working at the frame shop alone tonight, spending the last few hours cleaning and helping people out (because we have finally caught up for the week on custom orders).
It was really quiet night.
Then 15 minutes before we close this family comes in at a rush...
The husband wants mats for his posters that he has.  The wife wants me to cut "5" of them.
Right...Now.
Usually, I don't do anything after 8:45 (except take orders for custom) because it would take too long and then we would close.
But, I thought I would be a bad ass and do it really quick.
Then they started arguing...

He wanted only an inch, she wanted 2 inches.
And I had no idea because they didn't bring the posters for me to measure.
SO, yeah, I was cutting blind.
I should have just said no.
But, after I "confirmed" it, I cut the mats 1 inch.
The guy liked it, the girl hated it.
...and they argued as we were closing.
"We live 30 minutes from here, we need this now!" (exact words)
SO with doubt, they left without the 5 mats, which I spent 15 minutes busting my ass to cut for them.

FUCK!

WHO THE HELL RUSHES LIKE THAT FOR FUCKING MATTING!?!?!
You want to pay over 60 dollars (the cost for 5 mats the size they wanted) and try and rush, unsure of the size, because you want it right now?  WHY?
Seriously, I don't understand that at all?!

Let me put it this way-
I consider myself an artist.  Just from the years of working on it with my mom, art class, college, and now at the gallery.  I also consider my art to be temporary (except for the photos).  All art is temporary in some way or another.  (seriously, look at the history of Leo's The Last Supper.  It was deteriorated after the first few years, so the original is gone, it's just repainted over and over again)
Except through memory.
Rushed art seems so bad to do.  I don't mean if you can do quick sketches, no (you trained to do taht, you put your time from training, praticing, and talent).  I mean rushing something for a timeline.  I understand it for business (which is why I didn't go into computer graphic design, the timelines and demands infuriated me), but for art in your house?  Why the rush?
Wouldn't you like to have the art you pictured to look at instead of GRAB THE PAINT, SPLATTER THE WALL, PAINT THE TRIM, 15 SECONDS!  TOO LONG!

Seriously, if you work long enough to where you gotta rush something to put it in your house, you probably don't need it.  Take a breath, plan, and if you don't know, find out.
We live in a world where information is at our fingertips.

(Seriously, there are links on how to frame here.
And you know how many times people keep asking me what matting is...

...You don't know what matting is either, do you?
Did you have to look it up as I was talking about it earlier.
...THERE IS A WIKI ARTICLE ABOUT IT!!!!
And if you didn't know and didn't bother even looking...for shame.
ARGH!!!!!!!!
Jk, hahaha...  except those who didn't know.  Get some class.)

Well, anyway, the main point of this rant is "Don't rush art!"
 But be PERSISTENT with it

Hell, right now, I'm trying to work on those photos I did last week.  I made a Fire Cobra!-

Now, I still need detail (she looks good, but need more on the snake), but I do have plans with it being framed.  Found a good frame and mat for it.  But I won't get the frame and mat until the picture is finished.
I also still want to finish editing the other pictures because maybe I will find another picture that is better.  Maybe like these-

Haha... last one looks like a jellyfish...

But when I do finish them, I will know and choose then.

(Poor Susy though on a side note... she was so good and excited that I want to do more with her.  Hell, she has inspired me to do more (writing and art wise).  Already planning the next fire shots and wanting more model ideas, but I need money, time, items, costume, makeup, and a place.  Sigh...)

SO yeah, there is that.  I also have my next chapter of my short story that I am working on (I'm really excited about that) and wanting to write about my vacation and my inspiration from the shows and time and other things...
And my fears.  And why they will be conquered.

And I keep going.  Keep running.  Keep breathing.  Don't rush and lose focus.

Keep telling yourself - Persistence pays off.

Hunter

So I have this admiration for the works of Hunter S. Thompson.
Just something about his writing I can admire.
But I have been on a Venture Brothers kick recently, and I suddenly remembered this character-

Oh yeah, this is my favorite character.  There are alot of scenes I can laugh at with him.

I would put more, but got to work.
Hopefully I will finish something soon (story or pictures).

July 4th - Notes, updates, thieves, and "Pyromantic"

Happy 4th Every-One!

I'm doing this early cause I will be working mostly all tomorrow.  Ya...
Sigh...
But as I was working on something (which will be told later), I remembered that I have been working on the other parts of the story so much that I forgot to update with my trip and notes.

So soon, I will post stuff from Vegas and how my time was there.

The other thing is this -
Yes, that is my photo up on the corner, and No, they did not use permission.  I'm very pissed about it.
I have written them a note (though I don't know if they will read it, it isn't the easiest page to work around), and am hoping for some action.

For good news though, after searching for a while, I have finally found a suitable model who was willing to have some fun with fire.
Her name is Susy and you can see her modeling stuff here.

Had a great time with her and I hope to use her again.  Took over 800 pics and had to bring out the video camera 4 times for some shots.  It was hot... in more ways than one.
I think I'll call the series "Pyromantic".  It seems to fit.
Still going through them, most are blurry (sadly that is usually the case with the fire shots), but some came out like this-

And those aren't even the best ones... :}
Since these are the unaltered photos, I won't watermark them, but I will when I finish adjusting the levels.

That's all I got for today.  Hope you all have a great time celebrating.

...I'll be at work...fuck...
