Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - A Retrospec Before...

Ok, ok, hear me out before you close this.
I know this could backfire really quick, especially if it explodes like people believe it will.
But...

I think the new TMNT movie looks good...

DON'T CLOSE!  DON'T CLOSE!
LET ME EXPLAIN!!!

Before I go into the new 2014 movie, let me talk about my history with the series~

Back in 1990, I finally came to America.
I was a military kid, born in Spain while my family was stationed there.
And it was then (around 4 years old), that I was introduced to the Turtles.
One of the first action figures I ever received was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
And I can say that it was also the entry of my collecting habit.
I may still have a few...

Only half of my old Turtle toys.
...you should see the Star Wars toys I have still in the attic.

Well, besides that, I do remember watching the cartoon show a long time ago and reading the Archie comic (which was trippy as hell, even as a kid I thought it was overdone) and even the ridiculously hard Nintendo game and arcade game~
My cousins were WAY more into it than I was, but I did like the fighting and the different characters that they would create.  The interaction of the Brothers (Leo, Raph, Don, Mikey) also made it worthwhile.
And for future reference, my favorites are Don and Raph.

And then the live action movie came out.
I don't remember if I was old enough to see the first one in theaters (I think I was though), but I did see the second one in theater.
(I can remember seeing Jurassic Park in theater in 1993 (I was 7) AND The Animated Batman Movie that year... and I also think I saw Batman Returns in 1992... damn, my parents took me to some messed up movies when I was young.)
Back then, the Second movie was my favorite.  Mostly because of the ninja rap and the two new mutants (also Super Shredder, but that fight was super lame...)  The first movie was dark, brooding, and just wasn't as colorful as the second one.  Also, the Raph scene was really depressing.
Now though, the second hasn't aged well.
The first movie though, has aged amazingly.  It is the only movie I would still watch now that I wouldn't feel bad about.

...Then the third movie came out and instead of Aliens (like the comic or show) we got MAGIC!
It was... sigh...

That's when I noticed a downfall of the series.

In 2003, they tried to revamp the series with a more "2000" look, and made it more original to the comic.
I did not like it.
Not.    One.    Bit.
I didn't care how accurate to the comic it was, it still didn't feel right.
So I lost all interest in it.

Until 2012, when they announced that Nickelodeon was in control of a new computer animated show and that MICHEAL BAY was in control of the movie.
Now, like I suspect most people who are Turtle Fans reacted, they panicked.
And I could understand.
But...
Nickelodeon did make Avatar the Last Air-bender.  So I gave them a shot with the show.

And I'm glad I did.
I think it's great!  They voice's for the Brothers are great, the martial arts is accurate, and Splinter is actually teaching them!  The villians are good, and some are even developed well.  There are some minor problems that could bug me, but the characters are good enough for me to allow it.
Not to mention the revise of old villains make me smile.

Now, with this in mind, I noticed that the new movie has Nickelodeon's title still on it.
And even though some of there live action remakes were... yikes.
So I was still hostile, but I was letting it take a chance with some stuff...

And then I saw the Second trailer, and I totally FOR this movie~

Now, the reason I'm liking this is mostly because this feels like a Turtle movie.
From the trailer, it's like a reboot of the 1990 version.
They give the Brothers character development, they actually have Items they carry around (like ninjas!  Which always bothered me when I was young, that basically they are always fighting naked.), and they are still funny with one liners and jokes.
Shredder looks intense.  And that's what I want.
To me, it looks like what I could only hope for.
(I'm thinking IMDB is pulling something odd.  I know the rumors were talking about William Fichtner as Shredder... but I actually like him as an actor.  They say he is Shredder, but I'm actually thinking he might be... Krang.  Or at least a robot suit, since he is upgrading the Shredder.  That would be a great twist...)

And for the people complaining about Megan Fox as April... do you really care about her that much?
As a character, she is just a "event" character.  She gets captured and forces the Brothers to react.
In the new cartoon, she's a teenager and well... she has a lot of awkward scenes.
But do I want her to be a main focus in the movie?
No.  I want Turtles.  I want Ninjas, and I want fighting.
I don't care about April.
She is a parody of Lois Lane.  That's it.

I know there is alot of drama with this movie.  There are loads and loads of articles nitpicking every single fact that they can get there hands on.
But I say let it go.

To the movie itself.  I say this~

Please, please don't be like my other mistake.
I'm giving you my hope.
If you fail, however, I will drag you down into the abyss with me.
Until then, you have my support.

...I hope this doesn't backfire on me.
Will~

Neatorama Links ~ 4

Another life update -

Writing part 6 of Shades of Fear which I am calling "Denial", but I thought I would spend a few minutes just saying what else I have been working on.

...not much.

Yeah, that last one is mine.
Mostly been working.  But I've had some time to read (and listen to reading).

Right now, I'm working on Jim Butcher's series.

Now, the Dresden series is something I have been reading for a couple of years now, and I really enjoy them, and Skin Game is no exception.  But the Codex Alera series surprised me, mixing the Roman Legion with X-Men (or Avatar).  For something that didn't sound as impressive, it proves that well written characters and a inventive story make for a great read.

I will talk about them more later, but for now, I write for myself.

So, as a stand in, here are some more cool links for you to look at and read.
And if you missed my previous links like this, you can take a look now the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Until then, later.
