The (Nu) Evil Dead Review

OHMYGODTHISISTHEGREATESTMOVIEIHAVEEVERSEENINMYLIFE!!!!

Ahem... sorry.  What I mean is that the newest version of the Evil Dead movie was to my liking.

Warning - I will try not to put up many spoilers but some may slip out... sorry again.

This story isn't the most bloodiest or scariest or disturbing movie I have seen, but it is definitely on my list for the top best.  It takes the old story and either modernizes it or gives you the impression that it's a sequel many years later and the book likes to repeat events.  Either way, it's a good setup.
Having seen the original again the day before ( I have the version that comes with a Necronomicon DVD case, which is awesome) and even listened to the commentary, I was prepared for the references.
Both Matt and I saw the Classic reference and we had a laugh.
They do answer something that wasn't brought up in the original, which is why they stay there at the creepy cabin in the first place.  I got the feeling that it was a Spring Break in the original, but it didn't give a strong reason on "WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU STAY THERE AFTER FINDING THAT BOOK!?!?!"  In the Nu, they explain that it's a drug detox for the one girl, which after months of listening to Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith's Get Old series, I can see why they would do that.  It was also a great set up for later (wink wink) which I also enjoyed.
The book also got a revamped nu design which I also liked, the the black trash bag and barbwire cover and the inside writings.
I have to warn all that this is not an easy move to sit through without jumping or closing your eyes. The movie made me and Matt cringe, and that is no easy feat.  I have shifted uncomfortably many times at alot of films where extreme violence is shown, but this was the first time I saw cuts that made me go "that looks TOO real".
And the Deadites... Aww MAN were they fucking scary as hell!  Matt jokingly told me during the first seen that he already peed, and it just got better after that.
Also, if I ever saw that happening to my friends... I probably wouldn't be very nice to them.

That is basically all I can say about it.  I REALLY enjoyed it.
If you are a fan of the original, be prepared to see some new stuff that you should like.  But don't expect to see the wise talking man of action (Bruce the Man Campbell) or even a replacement of.  This is horror, pure and simple.
However, if the spirit is willing, I'm sure some revival of badassness could be found when pushed to the limits.  Like he was...

Got to go, still writing part 6 and almost done.  But got to sleep for work and then work on art.
Later
